Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
1. Is the language course compulsory?
Yes. The language course is a compulsory component of your degree programme.
2. Can I change my group?
A change of group is possible only with the consent of both the teacher of your current group and the teacher of the target group (if you already have one in mind).
If you do not, the Head of the Language Team will assign a suitable group.
Both consents must be emailed to cjo@ug.edu.pl, with a copy to the Head of the relevant language team.
Group changes are allowed only within the first two weeks of the language course for full-time students and before the second weekend session for part-time students.
3. How do I enrol in a language course?
- Go to: https://zapisy.euczelnia.ug.edu.pl/
- Log in following the instructions provided.
- Select your language and level preference (according to CEFR, from B1 to C1) and click “Submit”.
For a second foreign language (and for philology students), you may choose any level starting from A1. - You determine your entry level independently. To help you, you can take any online placement test or use the placement tests provided here:
4. I missed the enrolment deadline (the link doesn’t work) / I was admitted in an additional recruitment round / I haven’t been assigned to a language group.
Please contact the Foreign Languages Centre Office cjo@ug.edu.pl immediately so that you can be assigned to an appropriate group.
5. Can I transfer a language course grade obtained in another field of study or at another university?
According to §33 of the UG Study Regulations:
*Upon a student’s request submitted by 15 November (winter semester) or 15 March (summer semester) for full-time studies, or within one month from the start of classes for part-time studies, the Vice-Dean may recognise previously completed courses and documented learning outcomes and ECTS credits, in particular in cases of:
- repeating a subject,
- resuming studies,
- participating in an exchange programme,
- completing a subject in another field of study or at another university, including abroad.
When recognising prior learning, the University takes into account the compatibility of learning outcomes, including the number of ECTS credits, content scope, form and duration of classes, and the method of assessment.
For second-cycle (Master’s) students, courses completed at first-cycle (Bachelor’s) level cannot be recognised.
Applications for the transfer of achievements (grade recognition) should be submitted only via the eUczelnia system → eDocuments → “Application for recognition of language course”.
If the electronic form does not fully reflect your situation, please describe it briefly in the editable fields.
⚠️ Important: You are exempted from attending the course only once your application has been approved — merely submitting the request does not exempt you.
DETAILED REGULATIONS FOR THE TRANSFER AND RECOGNITION OF ACHIEVEMENTS IN UG FOREIGN LANGUAGES CENTRE
5a. Transfer of achievements from another field of study or university
Transfer is possible if the learning outcomes correspond and all of the following conditions are met:
- The required language level is documented (minimum B2 for first-cycle and B2+ for second-cycle studies).
- The number of hours completed is not less than required for the UG course.
Partial transfer of achievements is possible (e.g. one or two semesters) with the obligation to attend the remaining part of the course and/or take the final exam if some requirements are not fully met.
If the decision grants only partial recognition, the student must contact the FLC Office:
- at the beginning of the relevant semester to join a group, or
- at the end of the semester to register for the final exam (if only the exam needs to be taken).
According to the Study Regulations, achievements from first-cycle studies cannot be transferred to second-cycle programmes, even if the language level meets the B2 or B2+ requirement, due to different learning outcomes (academic and professional language proportions).
For long-cycle Master’s programmes, grades obtained in other Master’s or second-cycle studies (or a combination of first and second cycle) may be recognised, provided the total number of completed hours is sufficient.
5b. Graduates of philological studies and degrees conducted in the same language
Graduates of philology degrees or of programmes conducted in the language of the course may be exempted from the language course based on their diploma.
In such cases, the grade is transferred from the practical language course (philology) or related subjects (other programmes).
If the diploma is older than five years, only a partial recognition is possible — the course credit may be transferred, but the student must still take the final exam.
5c. External language certificates
Certificates in general English (e.g. B2 First, C1 Advanced, TOEFL, IELTS etc.) do not exempt students from attending UG language courses or taking the final exam, as they do not fully meet the intended learning outcomes of the university language course.
The only exception is certification at C2 level.
Similarly, bilingual or IB secondary school certificates do not serve as grounds for exemption.
Certificates in specialised language exams relevant to the student’s field of study (e.g. TOLES for Legal English; BEC/TOEIC for Business English; IELTS Academic) may be recognised, provided they confirm at least level B2 (first-cycle) or B2+ (second-cycle and long-cycle Master’s studies).
Other certificates not listed above will be considered individually.
⚠️ All certificates or documents used as the basis for exemption must be issued no more than five years ago.
5d. Erasmus+ Programme
If courses completed during an Erasmus+ exchange were taught in the same language as the UG language course, they may be recognised as equivalent to one semester of the course.
If any of those courses included an exam, this may also be recognised as equivalent to the final exam of the UG course, provided the exchange took place during the final semester of the UG language course.
After receiving your Transcript of Records, submit through eUczelnia:
“Application for recognition of language course”, and attach the course syllabus or other document confirming that at least one course ended with an exam.
If there is no basis for recognising the exam, you will need to take it at UG upon your return. If semester schedules or documentation deadlines differ, please stay in contact with your teacher and the FLC Office to arrange an appropriate exam date.
5e. Language courses taken in parallel on two degree programmes
If you are studying two degree programmes at UG (at the same study level), you may complete the language course in one programme and systematically transfer the results (course credits and exam grade) to the other.
When choosing this option, ensure that the number of hours and form of assessment are equivalent in both programmes.
At the beginning of the semester, submit via eUczelnia the “Application for recognition of language course”, stating that it concerns grades to be obtained in the future.
If the electronic form requires an attachment, you may upload a blank document.
The FLC Office has access to all the necessary data to verify such an application.
